Notre Dame Cathedral

The Notre-Dame Cathedral Series combines black-and-white photographs and later images taken with the Fuji X100, capturing one of Paris’s most significant landmarks and a defining achievement of Gothic architecture. The cathedral’s sculpted façade, intricate detailing, and monumental presence dominate the plaza in front, which is often packed with visitors, performers, and passersby. This constant movement contrasts with the building’s timelessness, emphasizing its enduring role as both architectural masterpiece and living urban space. The black-and-white medium highlights the depth of the stone carvings, the rhythm of buttresses, and the verticality that defines the Gothic composition.

Inside, the atmosphere shifts to one of quiet sublimity, where filtered light passes through stained glass and settles softly across the interior surfaces. Yet beyond the monumentality, everyday life continues around the cathedral. In the back streets and service areas, chefs step outside for cigarette breaks, workers pause briefly, and ordinary routines unfold. These moments reveal Notre-Dame not only as a historic icon but as part of a functioning city, where grandeur and daily life coexist in close proximity.
