Bibliothèque Sainte-Geneviève
The Bibliothèque Sainte-Geneviève, designed by Henri Labrouste, is captured in this series through photographs taken in 2017 using the Fuji X100. Located on the Place du Panthéon, the building’s restrained façade conceals a pioneering nineteenth-century interior, yet what particularly drew my attention was the lively plaza in front. The space was animated by students, passersby, and clusters of beautifully dressed Parisians, transforming the forecourt into an informal stage of everyday urban life. Sitting there, observing the movement and interaction, the library became more than an architectural landmark—it functioned as a social anchor, where learning, leisure, and the quiet performance of the city intertwined. The images reflect this duality: a historic institution of knowledge framed by a vibrant public realm that embodies Paris’s enduring culture of street life.
