Amman

The Amman Series presents a photographic exploration of a city whose character emerges through layers of history, everyday life, and its distinctive urban landscape. The first group of images focuses on Downtown Amman, where the city retains a remarkable sense of continuity. Here the streets, storefronts, and modest buildings evoke an atmosphere that feels suspended in time, as if parts of the city remain anchored in the 1960s. Small shops, cafés, and sidewalks animated by daily life create a setting that is both intimate and enduring, revealing a side of Amman defined less by spectacle than by its quiet urban charm.

The second section turns to the Citadel, where fragments of Amman’s long past remain visible in the form of a Roman temple and other archaeological remains. Perched above the city, this historic plateau offers a powerful reminder of the many civilizations that have passed through this landscape. The final group of images captures views from above, revealing the city’s cascading hillsides and tightly packed architecture. Some of these photographs were taken from vantage points along Rainbow Street, one of Amman’s most lively and interactive districts, where cafés, pedestrians, and gathering spaces animate the surrounding urban fabric. Together, these three perspectives—street life, ancient ruins, and elevated views—offer a portrait of Amman as a city shaped by memory, continuity, and vibrant everyday life.
